Current Information:Age-21 7 Bratton Street, Holloway Action of Pietre With the aim of diverting German troops away from Loos when the British attack went in there on 25th September 1915, there was an attack by the Meerut Division of the India Corps and some of 20th Division along a 1500 yard front against the German salient west of the Moulin du Pietre with the possible objective of gaining a foothold on the Aubers ridge 12th King’s Royal Rifle Corps had arrived in France in July, 1915 as part of 60 Brigade, 20th Division and when this attack went in on 25th September, 1915, the attacking battalions moved through 12th King’s Royal Rifle Corps who were holding the front line. The attack failed and by 10am they were back from where they had started and 12th King’s Royal Rifle Corps had to face the German retaliation which took the form of an artillery bombardment and concentrated machine gun fire. Inevitably there were casualties. |
